Changing Lives One Bite at a Time
our full story

First,
the silly girls on this page are Leia & Zya: Meet 2 of our team members for Soulful VeganEats! They taste recipes, come up with ideas, design visuals, help to research about food and more. Yes, they’re paid employees. Yes, they're learning about financial literacy and entrepreneurship!! Both are picky soul-food eaters who I cook for everyday; my babies. As a Mom homeschooling TWO girls plus having a toddler, I know first-hand how important it is to provide my girls with their favorite foods while teaching them healthy eating habits now!
Growing up in a traditional “urban” household, I have always loved the SOUL FOOD my Grandma made me (and yes, she put her foot in it). However, I watched her take 4-5 pills a day for a variety of preventable conditions, only to pass away after battling cancer. I saw the women and men in my family who had a starchy, sugary, meat-heavy diet need dialysis, have limbs removed after suffering from diabetes and develop cancer one by one.
I knew I had to make a change.
That's when I turned to the power of plant-based eating. However, as I began my journey, I realized how overwhelming it can be to make the switch. I watched everyone around me give up, even in the midst of being diagnosed with life-threatening diseases!!! They were stressed, afraid and it scared me to just have to watch and do NOTHING. So I started Soulful VeganEats, on a mustard seed of faith. My goal: change how our community eats and make it scrumptious and easy to do.
This company is built on passion, love and prayer. See, this idea came about when my mother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. She faced the daunting task of changing her eating habits to improve her health but she didn't know
where to start!
Then,
I decided to step in with my vegan meal plan, grocery list and recipes, providing her with the tools she needed to heal her body and mind. I KNEW I had to help more people! Starting a business as a Black Woman is about beating the odds. I didn’t get any funding or starter money. Everything started with family & word of mouth. Famously, I am a tough cookie. I spent most of my life on welfare and was labeled as low-income, since I was a kindergarten pup in the early 90’s in Philadelphia. I know all about budgeting, scratching and surviving, keepin’ our head above water. As a mom myself, I’ve had to make it happen with whatever was in the cabinet.
That’s why I believe that everyone should have access to healthy, delicious and affordable food regardless of their background or circumstances. In my twenties, I worked & studied at Philadelphia’s world-famous Dr. Wyatt’s University Herbs. That’s where my knowledge of plants grew! I saw us advise client after client on which herbs worked best with their ailments. I then became passionate about plant-based foods, nutrition and alternative health therapies. Next thing you know, I became a resource for so many people and it felt really good.
Although the idea for Soulful VeganEats came later, the creation of it was in the making for 20 years.
My process for curating the meal plans is utilizing what I’ve learned about herbs plus my education in nutrition, combined with the latest that science is showing about food for particular ailments. The recipes, juices and herbs are designed to be used together. I’ve seen countless people change their lives using our method, becoming healthier and happier.
Soulful VeganEats is about more than just health. It's about celebrating our culture and traditions, simultaneously promoting a sustainable and budget-friendly way of living. So, if you're looking to break FREE from unhealthy eating habits and take control of your health, I'm here to help!! Let's embark on this journey together and I promise to make it flavorful and most importantly, fulfilling.
Remember, after using our products, share the knowledge & teach what you know. Pass It on. Let’s change the world together!
